Rules

  1. REGISTRATION
    1. All competitors must register before the start to receive their race number and timing chip. The opening times and locations of registration will be sent to you well before the event and will be posted on this website.
  2. RACE NUMBERS AND TIMING CHIPS
    1. Each runners will be supplied with a number that contains his or her timing chip. This number MUST be displayed on the runner's front, un-mutilated and un-folded, for the entire duration of the race.
    2. Each horse rider will be supplied with two numbers, one of which contains the timing chip, and a wearable holder to contain them. The holder MUST be worn by the rider so that the number with the timing chip faces forward and is not covered up in any way, for the duration of the race. He or she will also be supplied with a numbered tag that MUST be attached to the horse so that it can be identified if it becomes separated from its rider.
  3. TEAMS (INDIVIDUAL RUNNERS)
    1. A team consists of 3 or more individual runners and the winning team will be the one with the lowest aggregate time for its first 3 finishers.
    2. An individual runner can only be a member of one team.
    3. It is the individual's responsibility to ensure that he or she has been registered as a member of the team before the start of the race.
    4. The membership of a team cannot be changed after the start of the race.
  4. HORSES
    1. Every horse must pass the pre-race vet check.
    2. Every horse must pass the half-way vet check.
    3. Every horse must pass the final vet check within 30 minutes of crossing the finish line.
    4. Horses can be shod or unshod but a horse that is shod at the pre-race vet check MUST be shod at all other vet checks.
  5. RELAY TEAMS
    1. Second leg runners must, and third leg runners should, use the coaches provided to get to the changeover points and first leg runners must (and second leg runners should) use the coaches provided to return to the finish. There is no parking space at the first changeover and very limited parking space at the second changeover.
    2. The wrist band supplied to each relay team MUST be passed on to the next runner at each changeover.
  6. ON THE COURSE
    1. Competitors must not make any attempt to prevent another competitor from overtaking on any section of the course.
    2. Runners must keep to the right hand side of the course to allow horses and faster runners to pass on their left.
    3. Riders in a group MUST ALL call to runners they are overtaking - if only the first member of the group calls, runners may not realise there are more horses passing!
    4. Competitors must not depart from the marked route. Any competitor who inadvertently deviates from the marked route must rejoin the route as close as possible to the point at which he or she left it.
    5. Competitors must not use any devices such as music players that may impede their hearing in any way.
    6. Horses must not canter or gallop on the tar macadam road sections.
    7. Competitors must not drop litter on the course. All marshals out on the course have rubbish bags, so hand any litter to them.
    8. Any breach of the above rules will result in disqualification.
    9. Any competitor withdrawing from the race whilst on the course must report the fact to a marshal or other official as soon as possible, stating his/her number and hand in the wrist band (relay runners only). If you feel you are unable to continue to the next marshal or return to the previous one, you should get to the side of the route and ask the following competitor to report your withdrawal at the next checkpoint. Also, please tell him/her whether you are capable of continuing slowly to the next checkpoint or if you require medical or veterinary assistance, in which case please wait where you are for assistance to arrive.
    10. There is an overall time limit of 6 hours for the race that will be administered as 3 2-hour sections corresponding to the relay legs. Competitors who are outside these limits, without a valid reason, will be asked to withdraw from the race and will not be classed as finishers.
  7. GENERAL CONDUCT
    1. Any conduct by any competitor, competitor's family, supporter or crew which, in the opinion of the organizers or officials, harms the reputation of the Event or of Green Events Limited in any way will result in disqualification of that competitor.
    2. Any abuse, whether it be verbal, physical or of any other sort, of any organizer, official or volunteer by any competitor, competitor's family, supporter or crew will result in disqualification of that competitor.
  8. APPEALS AND PROTESTS
    1. Any appeal or protest must be lodged at the Race Control tent at the finish within 20 minutes of the provisional results being posted. No consideration can be given to any appeal/protest lodged after this time has elapsed. Each appeal or protest must be accompanied by a £20 fee that will be refunded if the appeal or protest is upheld.
  9. DECISIONS
    1. The decision of the organizers shall be final.
